Alexandra is a senior research fellow of the Higher Education Academy, honorary lecturer, educational researcher and data scientist in Learning and Teaching Innovation of the Faculty of Education of the Open University.

Her specialism focuses on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) for designing and assessing new technologies to foster digital, scientific and inclusive society. Her work draws on sociocultural theory, critical pedagogy and mixed methods to examine how learners use technology for developing knowledge, skills and attitudes based on real-world experiences.

Over the past 20 years, Dr Okada worked as a computer scientist and consultant for groups such as the Association for Science Education UK, the Secretary of Continuing Education, Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion of Brazilian Government; ILO UNESCO, Johnson & Johnson and IBM Brazil. She was the Principal Investigator in various European funded projects in ICT and Science with and for Society. She has a strong research record having led bids amounting to £2m of external funding for projects that have benefited society over the last ten years

Dr. Okada holds a BSc Computer Science (Hons); MA (Education: Curriculum); MBA (Knowledge Management and Communication); MSc(Education) and Ph.D. (Educational Technology).
